IRC Scheme of the Year 2024 goes to... Mayfield Villages.

Last night, Mayfield Watford won IRC Scheme of the Year at the Health Investor Senior Housing Awards 2024.

Nick Vincent, General Manager, along with the wider Mayfield team were in attendance at the event with Balfour Beatty plc. Surrounded by experts in the senior housing sector, comedian Lucy Porter introduced the finalists and announced Mayfield Villages as the first winner of the night.

"This award is testament to the brilliant collaboration between Balfour Beatty plc and Mayfield Villages.

To be recognised by your industry is a proud moment for myself and my wonderful team who have taken the village from bricks and mortar to create a thriving environment for our owners to live and create memories.

Special thanks to the development team."

What is an IRC Scheme?

Following years of research and engagement with older people, ARCO launched a new term to describe the sector it represents – ‘Integrated Retirement Community'. The Associated Retirement Community Operators (ARCO) is the main body representing the Integrated Retirement Community sector in the UK.

To be an ARCO registered Integrated Retirement Community under the ARCO Consumer Code, as well as being primarily for older people, an Integrated Retirement Community must:

  • Offer self-contained accommodation
  • Offer security of tenure
  • Have communal facilities and active social programs
  • Offers meals in restaurants or dining areas
  • Offer personal care if and when needed
  • Offer domestic services if and when needed
  • Have 24/7 staff onsite
  • Aim to offer a home for life to 'age in place'
