According to new research from Mayfield Villages, shops, restaurants and outdoor space are among the top facilities people in Hertfordshire want from their local community. These spaces offer somewhere to socialise, enjoy leisure time and convenience, which contributes significantly to people’s sense of community and quality of life. Cafes, pubs and a community centre were also at the top of the list, while a swimming pool, cinema, gym and theatre also feature among the top ten.

But what makes the perfect community? The research showed that having a ‘village feel’ is vital, with regular neighbourhood events such as street parties and village fetes (46%), a mix of different ages and genders (50%) and a neighbourhood watch (48%).

Paul Morgan, Managing Director Operations at Mayfield Villages says: “A strong sense of community is incredibly important, but so too are the things to do within that. The best communities have something for everyone, whether that’s eating out, exercising or socialising. At Mayfield Watford, our Mayfield Club and café-bistro will be open to people who live or are staying in the local area. With the swimming pool, gym and café-bistro on site, we will place great importance on ensuring both our owners and visitors can enjoy life at the village.”
